Taumadhi Square
Taumadhi Square is one of the most atmospheric public spaces in all of Nepal. Dominated by the five-storey Nyatapola Temple on one side and the three-storey Bhairavnath Temple on the other, the square bustles with local life, religious activity and, during festivals, joyful public celebrations. The surrounding traditional buildings, tea houses and shops create a perfectly preserved medieval streetscape that transports visitors to another era. This is where Bhaktapur's famous Bisket Jatra festival — the Nepal New Year celebration — reaches its dramatic climax.
