Nyatapola Temple
Built in 1702 during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla, the Nyatapola Temple is the tallest pagoda structure in Nepal and one of the finest examples of Newari temple architecture anywhere in the world. Rising five tiers above Taumadhi Square, it is flanked by five pairs of legendary guardians — warriors, elephants, lions, griffins and goddesses — each said to be ten times more powerful than the one below. The temple's scale, symmetry and serenity make it one of Bhaktapur's most unforgettable sights.
