Golden Gate

The Golden Gate, known locally as the Sun Dhoka, is considered the most magnificent entrance to any building in Nepal. Constructed in 1753 by King Ranjit Malla, it stands at the entrance to the 55-Window Palace and is decorated with fantastic images of gods, goddesses and mythological creatures in beaten and gilded copper. The gate's extraordinary detail and golden radiance make it one of the most photographed and admired works of art in the entire Kathmandu Valley.
